General information

Tourism in Slovenia offers many employment and business opportunities, especially in the areas of hospitality, hotel management, tourist guiding and sustainable tourism. There is a high demand for workers in both larger cities and rural areas, where boutique accommodation and experience-based tourism are on the rise.

Slovenian tourism is a dynamic sector that offers many employment and business opportunities, especially in areas such as:

Hospitality and hotel management – chefs, waiters, hotel managers
Tour group guides – tour guides
Wellness and sports tourism – massage therapists, trainers, activity guides
Digital marketing – promotion, event organization
Sustainable tourism – ecotourism

2023 was the most successful year for Slovenian tourism to date, and the sector continues to achieve excellent results this year.

Almost 57,000 people were employed in the Slovenian tourism sector in 2023.

There were 16.13 million overnight stays, which is 2% more than in the pre-pandemic year of 2019. Compared to 2022, there was a 4% increase in overnight stays and a 6% rise in arrivals. This is excellent news, especially when compared to global trends. According to the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), international arrivals worldwide in 2023 lagged 12% behind 2019 levels, while in Europe, they were 6% lower.

Slovenia ranks 9th on the Global Safety Index, making it the ninth safest country in the world (out of 163 countries).

The highest number of overnight stays were recorded in Ljubljana, Piran, and Kranjska Gora. The majority of foreign visitors staying in Slovenia come from Germany, Italy, and Austria.
